I've written one thing in the past year so I'm rusty, but I wanted to get some practice in before I tackle the first thegameison_sh challenge so I've done a one-shot Merlin piece. The title comes from the song Vertigo by Antje Duvekot, I recommend that song, it is stunning.

Title: When I Fall Right Out of the Sky
Fandom: Merlin
Characters: Merlin, Morgana, Uther, Arthur
Word Count: 789
Rating: PG
Genre: Angst
Warnings: Character Death
Summery: Set during The Fires of Idirsholas, if Morgana had still been the key to the knights but had fallen asleep when everyone else did.
Disclaimer: Merlin is obviously not mine. If it was, Kilgarrah would accidentally set himself on fire.

I have stolen this from apple_pathways  because it seemed like good fun!

The rules:
1. Open a music player.
2. Go to 'all music'/'library'.
3. Hit shuffle/repeat/randomise.
4. Find photos of the first 30 artists/bands that come up (no repeats and no cheating).
5. Have people guess who the artists/bands are.
6. Paste this in your journal and do it too, so I can have fun guessing as well.

The images for my 30 are underneath the cut and are, shall we say, slightly eclectic. The following decades are included: 2000, 1990, 1980, 1970, 1960, 1940, 1930 and even 1920 (I'm not sure what happened to the 50s but they didn't turn up.)

Some are easy to guess; some may be near impossible but go have a go anyway and I'll cross them off when they've been guessed.

15/30 Guessed!

It has been a very scary morning :(

My parents left at half four on Friday morning to go on holiday to Denmark (my parents are obsessed with Denmark, my dad studied abroad there when he was at uni and has loved it ever since and passed that to my mum as well) and they're coming back to get here around 6pm tonight.

Now, everything has been fine, I've been looking after the cat and the dogs; five Border Collies - Seth 14, Moss (the only girl) 12, Alfie 7, Monty 2.5 and Wes who is still under a year old. They've taken some looking after but I've coped well enough until this morning when poor Moss had a fit.

She's had fits before, she had one a few weeks ago, I wasn't here but my parents were but this time I'm here by myself and I've never seen her have one before, and, as it is a tiny village it's not like I can walk over 4 miles to get to the vet. Luckily she's doing okay now, she's just lying near me in the living room. She had the fit outside and couldn't walk afterwards so it took a couple of hours to get her able to move inside the house.

Hopefully she'll be okay, she seems a lot better than she was, she's had some water and she's not drooling anymore, she doesn't seem as zoned out either.

The other dogs are getting pissed though, they haven't had any breakfast and it's nearly midday but I'm not supposed to feed her so I can't feed them because if they get food and she didn't she'd hurt herself trying to get some.

I have my time table for the first semester of my second year! I start on 28th September and can't wait! I have Monday off and Wednesday off and finish Friday at 1pm so I'd be able to go home Friday afternoon and come back Monday afternoon/evening if I wanted to visit my parents. I had a Monday off last year but I had to come back on Sundays as cleaning inspecitions were on Monday morning.

Tuesday = Electronic Business Processes workshop and then EBP lecture (I am so looking forward to this, it's run by my favourite lecturer) and I have workshops for Database Systems and Systems Analysis and Design II at the exact same time in different rooms, hence the title of the post and my use of this icon.
Thursday = Database Systems lecture, Network Communications lecture and Network Communications workshop
Friday = Systems Analysis and Design II lecture

The only problem with the above is that Networks are my biggest downfall, I did well last year in general but Networks... *shudders* I was never taught them properly at college because the lecturer we had there was leaving in a few weeks so didn't bother teach us it properly and I managed to get through last years ICT module (which contained a bit of networking) but this is a whole module worth and ahhhhhhhhhhh I don't know what to do! There are just so many acronyms I can't keep them straight in my head!

So, my plan is to buy some books on Networks from good ol' Amazon and revise before classes start, I just need to find one that is basic enough and in depth enough (I need to be up to understanding OSI layers and other types of layers), at which point I say... does anyone know any good books about Networks?

Currently I am sitting here, waiting until I can open Round Seven at merlin_land and rather than do something productive I am attempting to make my first ever fan-mix, based on Merlin/Morgana, esspecially centered around The Fires of Idirsholas. Currently I'm stuck at only four songs though >.<

As research I'm listening to Matt Nathanson - I don't need an excuse to listen to him though, I adore that man and his amazing song writing and singing and instrument playing.

It might be a silly thing to make a fan mix about because it does make me feel rather sad; that scene was ridiculously heartbreaking. Currently I'm listening to the following song and didn't realise just how fitting it was for that scene until just now (from Morgana's perspective)

Matt Nathanson - I Saw

And it's amazing, the look in your eyes
Like you could save me but you won't even try
So tell me again how everything will be alright

And if I told you, that I'm sorry
Would you tell me you were wrong?
Would you hold me down forever if I came to you for answers?

:(

Just continuing my squeeing over my Sherlock DVD I forgot to mention yesterday the change below and I wish so much that they'd kept it as it was! I know they changed it to show how much power Sherlock had and how he was inflexible but he looked so much cuter in the outfit in the pilot!

Actual Version (Sherlock!Coat)

Awesomer Version (at least at the outfit choices)

Guess what brilliant thing happened this morning? The Sherlock DVD is released on Monday but I pre-ordered it through Amazon. As Monday is a bank holiday I thought that I wouldn't get it until Tuesday... I got it this morning!

OH FUCK YEAH!

First thing I've done is watch the unaired pilot, I thought it was going to be slighty different but it was really very different. If you want to wait until you see if for yourself then my notes are hidden away from you underneath the cut.

Spoilers - Do They Count As Spoilers Though? I Mean, It Was Never Even Aired - I Don't Know, Better Not Risk It Though!Collapse )

In short, it was very good and I recommend you watch it!

So I did something stupid earlier today; I am never around when sign-ups are up for Big Bangs so when I saw an advert for sherlockbigbang I jumped at the chance and signed up... twice, which means a minimum of 15,000 words each between now and near the end of November, as well as the things that will come up at thegameison_sh

I should have just signed up for one but I have two very different plot bunnies in my head and couldn't help signing up for both of them - I couldn't decide which to do and which not to do!

First Plot

John starts having visions he thinks are of the future but they turn out to be of the past and everyone but Lestrade thinks he's useless. Eventually John/Lestrade.

Second Plot

Moriarty sets Sherlock another challenge but he fails, leading to a bomb going off which kills a lot of Lestrade's collegues and superficially injures Lestrade. Moriarty doesn't tell Sherlock what the correct answer was to the question. Lestrade suffers with survivors guilt, is demoted and struggles not to sink into addiction. Sherlock is banned from communication with the police. The search for Moriarty is consuming both Lestrade and Sherlock and both are forbidden from taking part in the official investigation. Sherlock decides to use Lestrade to get to crime  files to see if he can see any links to Moriarty and is so desperate to find the answer to the question that he ignores or doesn't spot the addiction signs and just ends up making Lestrade worse and Lestrade is forced by his bosses to take time out and not come near the station, leading to Sherlock abandoning him as he is useless to him now. Then, a few months from the inital bomb blast and the day that Lestrade is put on leave, Moriarty contacts John and gives him a riddle to solve (maybe same challenge, maybe a few smaller ones, not sure yet), without Sherlock's help, or Harry will be killed (though she isn't kidnapped.) John then has to try and hide his task from a bored Sherlock who has decided to follow Watson around, analysing his every move for fun. He goes to Lestrade to try and get help and realises just how ill Lestrade is. This one will be Lestrade/Sherlock and eventually Lestrade/Watson.

The plot bunnies are eating my brain, do either of these sound adequate plots at all? :S

On a lighter note I made a mini-picspam for a scifiland challenge this morning which was meant to be the theme of 'lolz.' - I know that this isn't the order the images were shown on screen but I liked the alternative story lol;
Photobucket

So, anyone doing the Sherlock Big Bang? It would help knowing I'm not the only crazy one lol!

I am currently enjoying the Sherlock land comm and have been trying to find others to join and caseland is right up my street, it stands for almost every Cop and Forensic show from all countries and I found it via a pimp in a Sherlock community - yes, that counts as well! So go and join and join Team Forensics, because that team is win.

Okay, here is Day Four of the Merlin Meme
Day Four - Favourite Scene

My favourite scene is from Excalibur, when Merlin is getting ready to prep Arthur for the fight and Uther walks in. There is so little said in the scene but it just sticks with me, esspecially at the end when Uther tells Merlin to "look after him" (Arthur), it had been hard to see Uther as anything other than a brutal tyrant throughout the series but at this point you got to see the love he had for his son and I think that the understatedness of the scene was what made it work so well. There was no rushing about, the movements all seemed calculated and there was no huge music swelling in the background (though I do love Merlin music, I got the first season soundtrack earlier this week and I'm addicted to The Witch's Aria) and the scene hung on the lines and the acting ability and, whilst Colin did well, ASH was fully able to play this side to Uther, the defeated man who knows (well, thinks at that point) that he won't make it out of battle but still has enough honor in him that he will go out fighting, and that he will spend his last moments saving the son, the same son who thinks he is such a dissapointment to his father.

Just an amazing scene, plus it put Merlin/Uther thoughts into my head - don't shoot me people but come on, he was dressing the guy and it was sweet! I do want to read Uther/Merlin fic but I can't find any that is concensual and isn't dub-con and that I don't want to read so :(

Missed a day - oops!

Day Two - Favourite Male Character

Hmm, I will have to say, if we are going on main characters, Arthur. I would never have thought it, I hate bullys and at the start was all "Arthur, GTFO" but then he grew on me, as I know he did for a lot of people when he went out to fight Valiant. Then as the episodes rolled on we saw more and more of his heart and his kindness and he, without me realising, became my favourite male character (still behind Morgana though.) I also like Leon, but that's another matter entirely :p

Day Three - Favourite Episode

Without a doubt this is The Sins of the Father, it is one of my all time favourite episodes in all the shows I've watched. It was just so amazing! The preview looked good but sometimes previews are edited to make things look a lot better than they are but it was so much better than the preview looked! There was epic angst from Arthur and somewhat great angst from Uther. The scene where Arthur met his 'mother' and apologised for killing her was heartbreaking! We finally got a replacement for Nimueh (though I still prefer Nimueh to Morgause.) Arthur finally gave Uther the telling off for the purge that we all wanted to!

I have never been so on the edge of my seat in a Merlin episode than when Arthur threw down his glove at Uther's feet. We knew that Arthur would survive, of course, but I'm a spoiler phobe and did not know that if Uther would or wouldn't. There was also so much angst from Merlin talking Arthur down, the scene was so, so sad, and when Arthur collapsed, apologising just... awwwwww and a bit of seourhapienfpainsdaoushdaouehrosdinfodifuhaoei on the side just because of how amazing this episode was!
